She covered sports for some of the biggest media outlets across the nation. She reported on basketball, football as well as Grand Slam Tennis for The Washington Post. Nichols joined ESPN at the beginning of 2004. She stayed for 9 years at the network, earning two Emmy Awards. During this time Nichols was a reporter for TNT's NBA broadcasts which included playoffs, regular season, and All-Star broadcast teams. She also reported for TBS reporting on golf and baseball broadcasts as well as Final Four broadcasts on CBS. It is the only nomination in 42 years of this award to a woman among more than 200 nominated contestants.
