Inspired by her observations of shadows upon the ground The artist took months perfecting a technique to express objects in two dimensions onto canvas. When the objects are alive or perishable like fruits and people, they become a painting of themselves. Her ephemeral painting style is evident and what survives in Alexa Meade's art is a photographic image. Both the painting and photographic methods are tightly interwoven that the result is an unflat, 2-dimensional space which is able to achieve trompe l'oeil. The third dimension is discernible only within certain places that are close to the eyes or in hair. At times, Meade integrates her painted models into the 3D world around them, allowing the models to be part of this self-created world. The boundaries between performance, photography, and installation are thus dissolved.
